Gunmen abduct Embattled UNICAL Dean, Prof Cyril Ndifon in Akpabuyo

In the early hours of 12midnight to 1:00am Thursday, unidentified gunm£n welding heavy arms and ammunition whisked away the suspended Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Prof. Cyril Ndifon to an unknown destination.

It was learnt that the men forced their way into Prof Ndifon's Akpabuyo residence in the outskirts of Calabar and arr£sted him from his sleeping bed.

A family source narrated the encounter;

At about 12:00 -- 1:00am this morning we were asleep when heavy knocks hit our door. A voice shouted behind the door that we should open the door else they would blow the door open if we did not open at that moment.

“The people had jumped over the fence to get access to our building because at the time, 12midnight our gate was still under lock.”

"About ten heavily arm£d men entered, bodies reeking of alcohol and cigarette, pulled down the main entrance door and the door leading to the bedroom and whisked away Prof Ndifon. We attempted to protest, but one of them threatened to shoot, aiming his muzzle at us".

“Tell me why you had to break our doors to pick my husband in the middle of the night in such an inhumane manner,” Mrs Ndifon cried.

The unidentified gunmen, however, shrugged, telling her that her cry was meaningless as Prof Ndifon was dragged into a waiting van and taken to an unknown destination.

Recall, Prof Ndifon had raised an alarm recently over threats to his life where he said some unidentified “security personnel” came looking for him in the church in a bid to arrest him without a warrant.
